There is plenty for the Good Day NY and MyFoxNY crews to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. Some of us took time out to help serve a Thanksgiving meal at the NYC Rescue Mission. Check out some of the video I shot.. and one picture:

Great job again Kathy! Great to see you guys out for a great cause, and glad you brought at the Casio! ;) The only thing missing is you and Ines!!lol Thanks again for thinking of us and giving us a glimpse of what you guys are up to. I did a benefit show in Philly last week, where they did a food drive, as well as a Toys for Tots donation, and it went very well.

Thanks for sharing this with us! Doesn't it make you feel warm and great? These are people just like us who are alone and soometimes down on their luck. All they need is some attention and have to be shown that people do care! We should all chip in to help out. For years I participate in food drives, coat drives, amd collect toys both nre snf used and with help from all the sports teams and even the WWF.
Maybe in the future you could get some of us bloggers to help out.

I love to see this. At the holidays Fox seems to be involved with many causes. Do you know if they are doing a toy drive this year or the coat drive??

Kathy,
That is a wonderful thing you all did! I bet the caring meant even more to them than the actual food itself.

Hard luck and poverty could strike any one of us; no one is exempt. I bet they all have great war stories to tell about what they once had.

I have a friend who is a retired nurse, and runs a collaborative charity center to help get people on their feet and self-sufficient again. With clothing donations from stores like Macy's, and food donations, she runs a center in NJ, and gives them food clothes and a place to sleep.
But----nothing is free to them. They must do volunteer work in the center to earn the benefits she offers.
Her reasoning is to help build their pride, by making them feel useful again. She gives them confidence and new clothing to prepare them for a job interviews too.
I think there should be more centers like hers, she runs it in a skillful way so the well never runs dry.

There is a quote from Mother Teresa, in which she says, "It is not how much you do, but how much love you put into the doing that matters"!
Everyone's time is valuable, but giving that time in a worthwhile & positive way to others less fortunate, is so great to see. The video further enhances the experience.

Bobby- I read your post about your wrestling show. But I didn't know it was for charity, too. Kudos to you. So you go from being the "bad guy' to the "good guy" in the ring. Something tells me you were always the good guy.

BBB, maybe the blogger/chatter event we hope to have in the near future will benefit a charity, too?

Amy! I don't know of a station wide coat or toy drive, but I do know about a Toys for Tots event happening in Hoboken coming up. I can pass along information if you'd like.

There should absolutely be more centers like your friend's. That sounds like the perfect environment for someone needing help- not only is your friend providing the necessitites, but she's getting them back to work. How incredible. Thank you for sharing that story.

These clips just warm your heart! Glad to see the Fox crew and CW 11 going out and participating for a great cause. I especially like the clip where everyone is singing, dancing, having a great time. It shows how we can put aside all of our troubles and worries and have a good time in song--even if it is for one minute--thats all it takes! Cyber hug Kathy--and I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving :)

I hope you enjoyed your holiday, as well. You certainly have the right spirit & attitude for the season!
Having 12 years of Catholic schooling, I recognize your quote from the Gospel of Luke(which is somewhat ironic, considering the Senior Web Producer @ myfoxny.com bears the same name). It's a great quote however, with deep & wide-ranging meaning! Thanks for sharing your thoughts & experiences!

Kathy, I'm sorry that I didn't check out the videos sooner....Great stuff! I'm involved in something similar for underprivilged kids out here on the Island!

Kathy Carvajal is a producer for Fox 5's website MyFoxNY.com. She began her career in television news as a producer in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. After nearly two years down south, Kathy returned to the New York City area to work as a producer at NY1 News.
