I'm one of those people that when asked if I've seen this movie or that one my answer is usually no...that's followed by a WHAT? So, I wasn't going to let myself be out of the loop when it comes to talking about an Oscar worthy role by the now deceased Heath Ledger. I saw The Dark Night. It was too long for me and I don't follow the comic book story about Batman ( I don't even think I saw Batman begins...i know what you're saying WHAT?!) But now that I've gotten that out of the way, here's what I thought of Ledger's performance as the Joker. He was outstanding. He played the Joker to the point where I didn't see an actor, I saw one of the craziest people I've ever seen in my life (even if it was on a giant screen.) Ledger's convincing performance reminds of the kind of work Johnny Depp does. You can't but help ask yourself: 'is this guy crazy?'  (remember Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Pirates of the Caribbean?) If you're not big into Batman, see this movie anyway. Ledger is incredible.

Lol..Hey Kathy. Dont feel too bad becuase I'm the same way. I shocked many when I told them the last time I went to the movies was last summer...lol...its just that, nothing seemed interesting since then. However, that dry streak came to a halt this past Friday--I also saw Dark Knight! It's def a MUST SEE!!Heath was amazing--what an incredible performance! He will be missed.

Mystro! Thanks for commenting on my blog... I thought you were a strictly Mike Woods-kind-of-blogger ;->

Did you hear about the box office receipts? Like $60+million... something like that??? wow.

Kathy

I went to see it too. And I am a Batman fan. I loved Tim Burton's first two, and Jack Nicholson was a great joker. I'm with you, I didn't see an actor there either. Ledger took it all to a different level. I wish we were able to talk to him about it today. We know what he did to prepare for the role, but what was going on thru his mind during and after it I wonder. I read that Jack Nicholson warned him that role does take a toll on you mentally, and that Ledger locked himself up in his hotel room for weeks preparing. I love the mannerisims he created for the role. The tounge thing he does and the way he moves his lips when he talks. And the funny moments there were. How he says, "Why so serious?" The rest of the cast was great too of course.

Problem: It was too long. I lost some interest in it towards the last quarter. Regardless, it was a great movie!

Hey, Ines.

I wish the same: that we could talk to Heath today and ask him what playing the Joker was like.

Do you think he'd say 'intense' and leave it at that? Or do you think he'd come out saying it caused him some serious pain and suffering?

Kathy

I think he would say more than just 'intense'. I hate thinking this, but maybe the role did cause serious pain and suffering that lead to the overdose and death. He took this role very serious! You mentioned Johnny Depp before, and he is the same way with his roles where you lose the actor. There's a difference here though, but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe you can?

Let me second the notion about not feeling bad for not seeing many movies. I hardly ever go to the movie theater and when I do, it's usually to see a movie with my two youngest kids. As such, I doubt that I will be going to see this new Batman flick as it is definitely not a movie for kids. I will see it in a year or so just as I saw Batman Begins about 2-3 years after it came out. The plot does not seem that compelling or inspiring to me, but I'm sure that the effects are great. I've always found Batman to be a bit too melodramatic, but it's good for what it is. Happy Monday, Kathy and everybody else!

You're right Daniel. I sat next to a dad and his two kids and they were terrified at certain parts (the kids). :) A little too much violence for a PG rating.

Well Gee Kathy...thanks for noticing...lol. The numbers are now something like 150 million...double WOW! I'm pretty sure that number will double by midweek. :)

Ines- I think the difference between our reactions to Heath Ledger and Johnny Depp - at least for me- is that we know Johnny Depp will be back at some point as a completely different character in a completely different movie. Sadly, we obviously can't say the same for Heath Ledger. So there remains that mystery in our minds: did this role do him in? Was it too mentally consuming and demanding? I'd be curious to know what a mental health expert has to say about this sort of thing.

Daniel- a good friend of mine who collects comic books, tells me the plotline of The Dark Knight is fairly cliche. I won't go into detail here because I don't want to ruin it for anyone else, but based on that, I don't think you're missing much when it comes to that part of the movie. It's Heath's role that is most compelling. Oh, and yeah, definitely not a childrens' movie.

MYSTRO- of course I notice! We appreciate our regular bloggers around here. Thanks for commenting.

Yeah, that's what I gathered from the storyline, especially since I collected and read thousands of comics growing up! This will be a movie that I will watch late at night by myself, especially due to Keith Ledgers portrayal of the joker. Mystro, good question about the fish! Later folks.

The fish has never been replaced, but at the moment, he's "resting." He's still around just taking a break from work... hey, everyone deserves a vacation ;->

Uh uh Dan, no word on the fish. While Brett was telling viewers all the interesting things on myfoxny.com, he also made viewers aware that Kathy was heading out of town. But as for the fish, I think he's still on vacation.

Hey Kathy!

Sounds interesting! I just added the movie to my Netflix list. (They let you put movies on your list in advance.) I love Johnny Depp too! Benny & Joon was my favorite Depp flick.
Now that home theaters are just way too comfortable.....I havent been to a movie theater in years. I can wait.
