On Sunday April 27th we aired a special half hour broadcast titled "Surviving Severe Weather".

All 4 of us on the FOX Chicago Weather Team contributed reports revolving around personal stories, tips on how to stay safe in sports stadiums, staying safe on the water, what to prepare at home and a look at the effect of a large tornado in downtown Chicago.

If you missed the special never fear it's now available right here on our website at the link below.

Very, very good presentation Tammie and rest of team!

As some feedback...I would have talked about NOAA weather radio. Also, I think it would have been great to talk about CoCoRaHS and how the public could help out by measuring precipitation.
It would have been neat to go behind the scenes of what our NWS does...and of course more detail about what you and the rest of weather team do behind the scenes.

Finally...it would be great to bring the attention to viewers of the www.alertchicago.com
website....(a very good resource for everything weatherwise, etc.)
Again...it was still a great presentation and I enjoyed.

Tips/Thoughts on Severe Weather:

1.) Everyone should have a NOAA weather radio (just like everyone would have carbon monoxide/smoke detecors).
Not only will this give you severe weather weather warnings/watches...but also inform you of Amber Alerts and other Civil Emergency messages.
Plus we have the SAME (Specific Area Message Encoding) to automatically sound a tone alert and give you the alert. Very good..especially when most are sleeping.

2.) When FOX Chicago says severe weather is possible in the coming days....one should make sure they watch future forecasts and also review their family/school/business severe weather plan.

3.) Everyone should have a storm kit. Most important are money, prescription drugs, flashlight, noaa weather radio/radio/portable tv....also, cell phone!

For those that are interested I have my own blog at www.chicagoweathercurrents.com...
Plus, look for my participation in the Fox weather blogs as well.
