Townhall Meeting

Youth Violence and ways to stop it. That was the topic of a meeting hosted by the Clergy Coalition for Peace last week. It was also an example of why people in positions of authority often do not accept invitations to townhall meetings. Of the couple hundred people in attendance, all it took was a half dozen disruptive individuals to create chaos and nearly destroy the agenda.

With trauma and violence devastating so many neighborhoods, it is understandable that emotions run high on this subject. But that does not explain the motives of people who show up only to engage in combat with people who are committed to creating strong families and safe neighborhoods. Shouting down the speakers and demanding the floor, insulting the pastors and even hollering while a panel of young people tried to talk about their experiences. It was frustrating and sad.

I'm told by other reporters that this same group shows up at many press events, particularly those involving the African American community. I wonder now if they should have been removed early on (they were rude from the start, but the whole point of a "townhall" meeting is that it is open to all interested citizens. Unfortunately, these citizens only seemed interested in preventing everyone else from meeting.

Great thanks to the overwhelming majority who attended with sincere interest in exchanging ideas, insight and action.  And a promise, more to come ...

I'm sorry if I have to laugh hysterically at this, Robin.

This is the tactic used by every pro-illegal alien organization today. Never has any organization who simply wants the issue of Illegal Immigration dealt with, caused a problem of any kind. It's ALWAYS been the protestors.

Where was the media complaints when the ICIRR and their action committee bused in over 2000 protestors to a village board meeting in Carpentersville a year and a half ago???

When we complain to you (the media), we just get more stories about how we're considered "racists" by Emma Lozano and Company.

Thanks for the chuckle, but it's a b**** when you get a taste of your own medicine, isn't it?

The problem is that young blacks have used hip hop and rap music like the bible for their direction.


As an American Black, I am feed up with it and I have moved on. Bill was right!

Today, we live in a country ,in which , I see African Americans represented in every area of of the American opportunity,including being the nominee for president .

I am tired of young and old African Americans trying to use the same old tired 60s tactics. They are just excuses today! Minorities can do and be what ever they want to.

If a dumb athletes can become a sport news anchor ,I know every other minority can do better!!!

Letting their paints hang down their behinds and repeating ignorant lyrics of rap music and hip hop is not the answer . They will lose every time and I will not pretend it was an unfair game. They just flatly lost!

Truly, practicing being intelligent and acting like one has a brain is the best answer!!! Hanging with the wrong crowd and being hip hop ghetto is the loser's path!!! Blaming racism is a cope out!!Plain and simple.

Robin, it's a sad state of affairs in this world when destructive audiences only bring an agenda of hate, but realize, every black clergy person in this United States have made an attempt to have a townhall meeting(s).

They never worked in the 60's, the 70's the 80's, 90's or now. To the clergy, they see hope and resurrection (not to be taken wrong here) in the rebuilding of neighborhoods filled with gangs, drugs, hookers and children going astray. It cannot be done.

When you take a 19 year old black American that has seen vice, crime, terror all his life, murder while growing up in his neighborhood, combined with watching the hip-hop artists with the tons of gold in their mouths and on their necks signing rap of killing, and soon you realize, it's easier to sell drugs than work a 40 hr job.

It's a sad, sad world out there, Robin.

The Clergy Coalition,

I respect them for attempting to have a Meeting, however, Chicago's Clergy are guilty of allowing as it relates to isolating themselves from their "True Calling". They have built Multi-million Dollar Churches and or Ministries off the backs of Poor People, then turned around and Marginalized & Polarize those same Poor People :-(

Also the Gangs understand that most Clergy in Chicago sleep/have sex with their Members and steal Money from the Church/Ministry. So in other words Gang Leaders/Members view Clergy as Pimps who preach on Sundays but live life Thugs from Mondays-Saturdays <

So when the Black Elite/Talented Tenth and Clergy fails, then where's the Hope going to come from? Maybe Hip-Hop Artists who have (White, Black, Red, Yellow, and Brown Fans).

So laugh all you want, but come to the table with Facts and or Relevant Comments :-)

It's a Sad State of Affairs in the World when Racists People attempt to push their Stupid and Ignorant Agenda's on Blogs that DO NOT pertain to them!

There are Gangs, Hookers, and Drugs everywhere. Can't blame America's HUNGER for Violence on African Americans.

The last time I checked "NO" African American has EVER Shot-up their School and or Class-mates. So stop looking for Honest Blogs to post your Stupid Comments and Agendas on...

I was hardly laughing about kids dying, but I saw your story more about the disruption of that meeting, than it was about kids dying.

Yesterday or the day before, while another child was killed by gunfire, Chicago Police was doing "JAYWALKING STINGS"! (front page of the SunTimes)

CeaseFire and anti-gun groups do nothing but preach to themselves! Legal gun owners are not the ones shooting people. I'd venture to say that MAYBE one out of 100 gang-bangers today obtain a gun in the legal manner. Town Hall meetings like the one you did your story about are nothing more than propaganda for the anti-gun lobby. To them and Mayor Daley, to get rid of all guns, would get rid of crime. That's as ridiculous as protesting to GM and screaming to BAN AUTOMOBILES to stop drunk drivers.

Of course though, you try and turn my response around on me. Nobody wants to see children die, but when politicians like Dick Daley and Rod Blagodope are so willing to turn their heads to one set of criminals (and a MAJOR COMPONENTS TO CHICAGO CRIME!), illegal aliens, how can anyone take them seriously when they cry outrage over senseless killings?

And to put your story more in perspective Robin, 10 times as many die die because of drunk driving, or unlicensed drivers. Where's the town-hall meetings and news story about them? How much money did the State of Illinois give MADD last year compared to the money they gave pro-illegal i

You don't fight a fire by banning or protesting the possession of gas cans.

Our Court system in this County and Country (to put it bluntly), suck. Chicago PD has gotten lazy. How many more out in the public roll calls have they done besides the one that the media was there for?

The buck stops at the lawmakers....period.

Sell out Jim? I am not the only one who's been call that, my man. Just a few, Bill Cosby, Tiger Woods,Powell, Dr.Rice, Clarence Thomas have all been called this by counter-productive individuals like yourself.

Besides, who the He44 are you to try and tell me what being "Black American " is or should be? I could care less about your psychotic tirade!

Rap music and hip hop has done a lot to create this "low level" view of black culture. The entertianment industry, along with the media ,have made gheto behavior glamerous and the mark of black cultutre. "A sell out" would be not to point out the falsity in all of that.

The black experience is far more than crack money , baby moma's, whores & Bs, HS dropouts and prison.

Maybe you should take a journey back to the "Harlem renaissance" up to the late 70s when young people KNEW RIGHT FROM WRONG and when they acted inappropriately ,no one had to say anything because they already knew they were being dumb and stupid.

But not today, most young people act like retards. They dont have a clue of what's right or wrong. They really dont Jim!(with their paints hanging down their behinds) blaming instead of doing! That's astounding, in my eyes!

Although I don't support obama politically, his upbringing(by his white grandparents) was dealt with extremely well .Let's consider for a moment, if he had been brought up under your type of counter-productive philosophy, where would this guy be today? Jim Allen. (oh no....relative of Mark? lol!). Let's see the stats Jim, on how those guns being used were "legally obtained" and "legally owned".

You can march each and every day of the week and hold meetings every night. UNTIL THE CHICAGO POLICE DECIDE TO FIGHT THIS THE WAY THEY SHOULD, IT'S GOING TO CONTINUE. Areas like Little Village BREED crime.

and as far as "making sport" about young people dying, you must have a severe comprehension problem. My post was about Robin's story and how ridiculous it was to complain about a "few" protestors. Nice try though. Try and stay on the topic next time Sparky. ;-)

Why wasn't there this kind of "outrage" by FOX (and you!) when the ICIRR and company bused in THOUSANDS of protestors to a village board meeting in Carpentersville 2 years ago??
Was THAT not the exact same thing? Wasn't there intent to "disrupt" that meeting??

50,000 Americans have been killed by ILLEGAL ALIENS.

hmm, that's a good point ***watchdog2*** I find it interesting the Black media and its leaders will not discuss the killings of 4 young African Americans , who were murdered by an **illegal assasin** in a nj park 2 years ago.

They also failed to report an African American woman, who is a Army Sargent fighting in IRAQ ,that got a call her son was the victim of a Latin gang style killing. He was illegal too.

Most every black leader and its media ,to this day, have remained silent on the issue. Many have also ignore the fact that illegals and their Latin community supported clinton instead of Obama (90%) and already stated they trust and believe mcCain is a more conpotent leader. 90% of blacks are ,however, supporting Obama. Yet , many ,like Jim, are still blaming whites, while throwing no blame at a very troubling problem -illegal immigration!

Unbeleivable! It's just freaking unbelievble to me.
