Has people searching for the "why"  and the "how" to stop it.  As we demand a police response and a crack down on firearms, let's stretch our view just a bit.

I thought there would be a backlash when the Chicago Urban League President announced last year that agency was getting out of the social service business after 91 years serving the African American community. Cheryle Jackson tells us she was also braced for some criticism of the new mission of economic empowerment. Instead, she says people were already there ... already wanting a new type of assistance, help in helping themselves. PROJECT NEXT is turning Black owned businesses into bigger, better, more profitable economic engines. Neighborhoods with viable businesses have pride, job chances and role models. Education improves, crime goes down. Is it possible that the bottom line is more important than a police presence or gun control? Every single time I have been covering a story or visiting a school or just visiting friends in a tough neighborhood --and that's been alot of times over the last 25 years -- someone (or two or three) asks me if "they got any jobs down there at Fox?" Of course thats not research, just anecdotal. I also get asked on dates most times I'm in the neighborhoods and I've had a few marriage proposals on the spot as well. But, seriously, seeing businesses thriving, maybe getting a summer job in one, spending your money in your own community ... joining a gang may not be so appealing. Unfortunately, the Urban League plan won't be an overnight solution. You can't pass a new law or beef up patrols to achieve it. But how can we expect a complex, generational tragedy to have a quick fix? Economic power could be the most effective social service yet.

Jobs and businesses are not going to change things as much as many hope it will. The fact is that Chicago as a community needs to come together and outlaw the entire gang element within the Chicago border area. Going to war with gang members with M-4 automatics is not the answer either. It is time to stop looking to city hall for the answer and look to each of ourselves within our community to produce a positive result. City hall can only answer problems with legal action and a majority of people in our Chicago area have met or known someone in a gang and have not discouraged the gang's existence at all. It is time to eradicate the entire gang eliment by initiated a social war on gangs. Make it o.k. for children in school to bring knowledge that they have about fellow students involved in gangs and then produce programs that are mandatory for the known gang members to attend to discourage the grip that the gang has on the younger generation. All City Hall is going to do is produce rougher laws that accidently slip non-gang members into the mix. I don't know about anyone else but I do not want to do five years because a law that was designed to protect me worked against me due to the underlying wording that accompanies the main aspect of the law. We as citizens need to understand that laws are not able to do everything that we as citizens are responsible for. Our Chicago community must take a stand.

Time brings about a change. Most Older People remember the struggles African Americans had with former Mayor Richard J. Daley. Some accused Mayor Richard J. Daley of being Racist and bias, especially regarding his War against Gangs and the supposed comments he made during the Chicago Riots.

Believe it or not their are Old Guard Leaders within the African American Community who still harbor deep resentments thwarts anyone with the last name Daley, lol.

However, in the backdrop of Jim Crow and Segregation one can only makes decisions that affects His/Her Times. To put the total blame on former Mayor Richard J. Daley for Chicago being Racists and or Segregated is idiotic and thoughtless.

Time brings about a Change, and current Mayor Richard M. Daley has integrated our City like never before. Mayor Richard M. Daley has appointed African Americans to key City Positions (Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, CAPS Director, etc).

Mayor Richard M. Daley has made Chicago a International City where we have the Consulate Generals of many Nations housed in our City. The Mayor has spoke out against Racism as it relates to African American Children enjoying the benefits of Downtown Chicago, and I can personally attest to being followed by Chicago Children Museum Staff when I was a Employee of the Chicago Park District on Field Trips at the Chicago Children's Museum.

No Administration, Government, Nation and or Kingdom has ever been FREE from Lies, Corruption, and or Deceit. The Pharaoh of Egypt decieved the Jews and Enslaved them.

Continued from above---

King David was a Murderer and Adulterer. King Solomon Heavily Taxed his People and had Major Sex Problems. Even Jesus the Messiah had Leaders within his Earthly Administration who were Liars and Thieves. The point is we have to learn how to forgive our Leaders who sincerely care for our best interest, but sometimes fall short of Promises Made.

Currently I'm developing a Multi-cultural and Multi-lateral Mentor Program for At-risk Youth/Young Adults, the Rainbow Push Coalition has shown great interest, however, we need your help as well.

I also Oversee a Educational and Exciting Summer Program called Chicago Scholars for Youth in Grades 4th-8th. The Program starts June 16, 2008 and goes through August 29, 2008. Cost is only 15.oo per week, per Child.

Finally, I want to personally thank Mayor and 1st Lady Daley for their Love, Service, Honor, Respect, Commitment, Passion, and Dedication they give to us on a Daily Basis.

After School Matters is certainly one of the things the Mayor can be most proud of -- Mrs. Daley shows vision with this AND makes the corporate honchos step up to support it. So, Noor, how can we get more teens interested in something positive?

Hey Robin,

Love your Dedication and Sincerity. As I shared with some Members of the Youth Violence Prevention Project (University of Chicago), we MUST Create, Develop, and Manage a City Wide Multi-cultural and Multi-lateral Mentor Program that will connect Youth of different Racial and Economical backgrounds through Service Projects, Cultural Events, and Recreational Programs.

All Mentors should attend Mentoring Certification Classes hosted by the University of Chicago. The Mentoring Program must provide At-risk Youth with stable Programs and Activites.

Youth should meet at their Local Parks where School Buses will pick them up to attend Various Events all across the City. That's why I personally think starting this Summer, the Mentor Program hours should operate Monday-Saturday / from 10am-8pm.

Besides Mentors receiving Certificates, they should also receive other City Benefits like: Free Taste of Chicago Tickets, Discount Sports Tickets, City Club of Chicago Event Tickets, etc.

Dear Robin, This is one of the best subjects ever. The comments are great and I for one have learned about some outstanding programs. I think Rev. Jim is great, and your efforts are very commendable. Please keep this discussion going. People need to know, interact, and get involved. Please find a way to get it to the message board, or whereever necessary to keep it going.
