In my story Sunday night, a cybercrimes investigator from Lake County indicated that even when a cellphone has been powered down, it can still be tracked by some "unnamed" federal agencies. Several viewers have asked how this is possible. He says that a cellphone is just like a computer, and that even when it is turned off, a small amount of power is still in use,  preserving basic data on the cellphone. In other words, turning it off doesn't  COMPLETELY turn it off.  The FBI does much of the work in the cellphone tracking  area, and they declined to be interviewed for the story.

Hey Larryellen, I think you're letting too much information out. You know the criminals and bad guys probally read this too. Sometimes too much information can hurt the good people of this country.

I think the public should know how the government is watching us and invading our privacy. It all comes down to how the government wants to control everyone and be able to track every move we make. This is not a free country and it will never be anymore with these control freaks that we have running it. Little do people know that the FBI listens in on there phone calls too. If they can track you what makes you think they can't hear every word you're saying. Just like the IPASS they want to track every move you make. People thought that the mofia was bad, the government is worse. Who keeps raisng taxes and screwing us out of money? "The U.S. Government"

Although I didnt need to know this information, I am glad the "FBI" is able to do this. Hopefully this will aid in law enforcement agencies ongoing battle to catch criminals.
