Assets of experience When we reach a certain age life takes on a different perspective. What used to be normal suddenly becomes the oddity. What used to be funny becomes tired and childish. There are many examples of this but until one reach’s that stage it is impossible to comprehend. I guess this is what they call the generation gap. Movies, music and even dancing all takes on a different meaning. I spent years in the music business working with some of the top rockers in the 70’s, now any kind of loud music drives me right up a wall. I used to roughhouse and wrestle with my boys, now when they come over and start roughhousing with their small sons or daughters it makes me nervous and agitated. I guess when you get older you see things differently. When I was in the service I could wake out of a dead sleep and be ready for anything at a moments notice, now it takes me 5 minutes to walk urgently from the bed to the bathroom. At least two minutes are required just to straighten up enough to walk. The one thing that has not gone away is the knowledge and experience I have gained through a lifetime of effort.
I’m telling you this because it may be the difference in how we look at the same problems. You may jump quickly to a theory of how to accomplish something and I may take a few minutes to look back and call on personal experience to decide on how something should be. I’m not saying that your way is always wrong but many times I can remember having done or seen the same thin earlier in my life. Experience is not something to take lightly. We in America have a habit of thinking that only the new way is the right way, and we pass up the chance many times to learn from those who have experienced similar problems. I was asked not long ago that if this is true, why do we send youngsters to fight a war? It was a legitimate question, because it’s true, we do send youngsters to fight a war.
The best way I can explain this is, we take the most experienced troops in the field and make teachers of them. They have to somehow breathe knowledge into these raw recruits, and allow them to become an extension of their own being. Only when a recruit can actually feel that they can see through the eyes of their trainer, and call on the trainers experience as if it were their own, are they ready for combat. The soldier who bluffs his way through training and thinks he has all the answers is not going to survive very long in a firefight. The worse part is they may get others injured or killed in the process.
I think it’s safe to say that the military uses experience to teach survival and to prepare their charges for the duties that may be required of them. Yet we Americans as a whole refuse to call on the experience of our elders for guidance. A great example of this is the mandatory retirement of airline pilots, at 60 years old. It doesn’t matter that they have a lifetime of experience to call on, it doesn’t matter that their health is perfect. All that matters is that they must be getting senile because of their age. If I needed a brain surgeon I surely wouldn’t want the one who just graduated, I would rather have the 65 year old that had done this procedure successfully a million times.
In the next few months we will be faced with some of the toughest and most life altering decisions in our history. We can go only with the theory of youth or should we maybe weigh with it the experience of those who have survived previous economic disasters. Experience is an immeasurable asset and yet we waste it so many times by ignoring the lessons learned by those who have traveled the path before us.
And that’s my opinion,
Don

Please Mr. President! The other day the President took time from his busy schedule to pardon two turkeys. In that same period of time he could have used his efforts to pardon Compean and Ramos, two Border Agents who have been incarcerated for some time now for shooting and wounding a known drug trafficker in the buttocks. These men have been treated like gangsters and locked up with some of the very people they have arrested. They are now being held in isolation because of threats and beatings. It’s time Mr. President to pardon these men and make damn sure they get their back pay. This whole trial and subsequent hearings have been a sham and you and your staff no it. If anyone should be locked up it’s the Federal Prosecutor that perpetrated this sham.
You have asked and received support from many of us for the war in Iraq. Actually we are embroiled in three wars Mr. President, Iraq, Afghanistan and the war on drugs which we are losing badly. We have documented cases of actual military incursions across our border where the Mexican Soldiers have guarded the escape of drug smugglers even firing their weapons in the process. All this and you let the creep Johnny Sutton keep these two locked up in a living heii. I voted for you twice and I must say I am totally disappointed in your last term. Most of us were so proud of the way you took charge after 9/11 but you have failed badly in all areas of the domestic front. Please Mr. President I beseech you, release these men immediately and remove all stigma from their record. They and their families have suffered greatly at hands of your administration.
I call on every American who reads this to get involved. All you have to do is demand their release. These are not common crooks, they were doing the job they were appointed to do. The fact that the Prosecutor Johnny Sutton gave immunity to this drug smuggler so he could testify against Compean and Ramos, and then this despot turned around and was captured bring more drugs into the country just weeks later, should be lesson enough. I’ll bet Sutton is enjoying his holidays with his family, I don’t know how he could even sleep at night with these two on his conscience. Write to the President from every city in the country, let him know how disgusting this is. If you don’t want to write or don’t have the time, just send him this message:
Mr. President, FREE COMPEAN AND RAMOS, and reinstate them at full pay. They were doing what 90% of Americans asked that they do, protect our borders. There are millions of us watching what you do with them, if you think your legacy is in trouble now, just leave office without this injustice being corrected.
Americans for Justice
just cut this out and mail it to;
PARDON COMPEAN AND RAMOS,
c/o President George W. Bush,
1600 Pennsylvania ave.
Washington, D.C. 20500
For the sake of justice, please take the time to do this one small thing to right a grievous wrong that has been done.
And that’s my opinion,
Don

I have about $15,000.00 of available credit but.......I choose NOT to use it.
Why? Because I cannot at this time pay it back.
A lot people spend money that they don't have
I was one of them, but what I was buying on credit was FOOD & CLOTHING.
I was not buying my children XBOX, Cell Phone, IPOD's and fancy cars.
I'm 47 & my first car I paid for, $300.00 a 1969 Chevy Impala, probably got about 10 MPG, but I was glad to be able to get from point "A" to point "B".
We as parents want to give our children a better life. We want to make sure that they don't have to work as hard. Let me ask you is that REALLY so bad?
How can we think that providing them with this STUFF is going to give them a better life? Really, Hello.
I use to spend time talking to my kids & listening to the stories that came out of their unstimulated by video, IM, text messaging lives.
It was amazing, how many of you can say that?

Are we next? The terror attack in Mumbai, India has Alqeda written all over it. From the precision timing to the staging itself showed a great deal of planning and Alqeda style training. It’s now time for the government of Pakistan to either ramp up their anti terror program in the mountains, or let us do it for them. No more stalls and sovereignty claims to hold off our bombers. I say flatten the these terrorist hideouts to oblivion. I’m sorry some civilians are going to die but in case you didn’t notice, some died yesterday too, in Mumbai.
What scares the heck out of me is that this whole thing looks like a practice run for a shot here in the States. I have felt for months that it was coming and probably to the West Coast as the major cities there, are so close to the sea. Speedboats could be off loaded from a freighter easily within reach of several major ports. We already know they have people imbedded here in the U.S. so how hard would it be to have a van waiting to whisk them off to any number of hotels or resorts in California, Oregon or Washington. Remember these guys don’t need an exit plan, they are totally prepared to die for the cause.
With the governments criminal lack of attention to either of our borders, leaves other possibilities for penetration, that would have little chance of failure. Somewhere, somehow, we have to get the idea across to these imbeciles in charge, that we need to close our borders. Why can’t they see the handwriting on the wall? The irony of the fact that why we continue to keep Compean and Ramos, the two Border Patrol Agents who tried to help secure our sovereign border in prison, totally escapes me. For all we know we could be letting in hundreds of Alqeda as we speak. I hate to think that the only thing stopping such an attack from Mexican soil, is the corrupt Mexican officials in charge there.
If a similar attack to the one in Mumbai was to happen in San Francisco or Seattle, how long would it take the counter insurgent teams to react? I’ll guaranty you that with the Terrorists desire to kill and their persistence to die for their cause, many would be lost before a reaction could be mounted. Why do we have to wait for it to happen before we clean out their terror camps in Pakistan? We know where the Pakistani nukes are located and we could probably take them out within minutes with a precision attack from the air with cruise missiles and penetrating smart bombs so that can not be the reasoning. I don’t know about you but I am sick of being told that we can’t hit them first for a change. These are not people that we will ever be able to convert to our way of life, or even be able to coexist with.
It’s time to act and act quickly or the next attack just might be right in your neighborhood. First and foremost close our borders to anyone who doesn’t belong here. Secondly give the Pakistani’s a warning through diplomatic channels that they have only a few days to react or we will carry out our own Jihad on the terrorists.
And that’s my opinion,
Don

Hey dad, can you hear me?
I wish I could still talk to my father. He and his generation experienced so much in their lifetime, that is the experience that is missing from our generation and from our leadership in general. The Great Depression of the twenty’s and thirties was at least 100 times worse than we have faced. Dad and his fellow blue collar workers traveled great distances to find a scrap of employment. While white collar workers were jumping out of windows my dad was building Coulee Dam. There was no bailout for them nor was there any welfare for he and my mother to fall back on. It changed people for life, as I have stated in earlier blogs, he never trusted the banks again until he was well into his 50’s.
Most people survived this period or should I say endured this era. The same generation went into World War II within a few years of the depression. Talk about having it rough, they fought their way through Europe and the Pacific Islands only to come home for three years and then off to Korea. Did I mention that many of the older ones were involved in World War I before the depression? When people of knowledge mention the Greatest Generation, they are referring to these men and women who through their grit and determination went on to build the greatest nation the world has ever seen. The strongest economy, the strongest military and the most resilient people that ever populated a continent. It has taken our generation just 40 years to destroy all that they had built.
I blame my father’s bunch for making life too easy for us. They didn’t want their children to suffer as they did. Commendable yes, smart no. We weren’t prepared to face the world as they were. We didn’t have the grit nor the backbone and we constantly proved it by just throwing money at whatever problems that may come up. There were no cures for economic problems, that would have been too cruel to those who failed to measure up. If we didn’t take care of them who would? We have in this generation created a welfare state that has destroyed the work ethic of America. Now we are expanding that welfare State by a bail out here and a bail out there, to the point that no one is taking responsibility for their own actions.
Life’s tough sometimes and that means the tough have to step up and take charge. We must learn the word no, it seems to have escaped from our vocabulary and is the missing element in our world today. If we continue down this path we will by the end of the next decade be totally at the mercy of stronger nations. We mock the civil rights in China, yet they are the ones who through grit and determination will be the conquers of the future. Yes they are cruel masters of their own people, yet they have built a strong nation both economically and militarily. They have responded our criticism with disdain, they have seen what our ways have done to weaken or resolve and ability to lead the world. I do not suggest that we become like China, I do propose we start becoming more conservative in our response to critical matters. Throwing money at everything has proven to be the wrong way. We can start by teaching our children that life is not always a bowl of cherries and sometimes they will lose. We have created a generation of people who think it’s okay to lose and just turn the other cheek and everything will be fine. Where has this approach gotten us so far? We sure as heck won’t ever be known as the Greatest Generation as it stands now.
And that’s my opinion,
Don

There is a reason to be thankful. As we head into the Holiday Season we find ourselves really searching for things to be thankful for. With the news of the economy and the sullen attitude that permeates our lives right now, we almost need a road map and a flashlight just to find a smile nearby. We’ve all had to make cutbacks this year, many companies have had mass layoffs and some have closed their doors. No one really anticipated the depth of this recession, so there was little planning and preparation for it. We do have our blessings though, and I would like to share them with you.
We have just been through what I have always considered the miracle that is the United States, and that is a bloodless change of power. There are few places in the world where this can happen. Whether you agree with the outcome or not, what actually took place could only happen in a few places here on earth. It appears the war in Iraq is winding down and hopefully we can clean up Afghanistan quickly. We pray for the safe return of our sons and daughters who have showed such bravery and selflessness in their service to this country. We can honestly be thankful for the spirit of giving that is shown daily in our local communities and religious centers across the land. When we watch the international news at night, we are so thankful that we live in a country where there is still a spoonful of kindness and cupful of charity in our daily lives.
No one knows what this next year will bring with it to surprise or excite us, but just being Americans, and free to live our lives as we see fit, is blessing enough to carry us through whatever the world, or Mother Nature may throw at us. As you sit down to dinner and say your Thanksgiving Prayer this year, remember to include a special one for our troops stationed around the world. Say another for our leaders, that they may once again learn to work together to bring us out of this crisis of our wallet and lift our spirits to face the difficult task ahead. Just think, the generation of our fathers faced a worldwide depression, two world wars and Korea and still built the greatest country and strongest economy in the world. Their troubles only seemed to bind them together and make them even stronger. Looking at our present situation through their eyes, makes this little speed bump in our lives a little more manageable.
I am of the school that thinks the elected administration is more than likely going to take us in the wrong direction for a speedy recovery, as did Bush. Into more government controls, rather than allowing the market to bring us out of this recession. We can bail out every large company in the country and unless the people start shopping, the economy will tank. It is imperative that we do our utmost to build confidence in the minds of the people. To do that, we need to bolster the main street business’s that actually run the economy. Who would want to buy anything from a company that may go out of business. I still believe that funding the SBA for emergency loans to small to medium business’s is the answer we are looking for.
And that’s my opinion,
Don

Harold Who? -- Reminder of the November 25th Date of the Death of Chicago's 1st Black Mayor Harold Washington
The message below is just one of those that I send out to various media assignment editors each year. I can tell you PLENTY about how we have come to Harold Who? For it is almost like he had never come this way. Part of the reason is that people know one generation of elder Washington's leadership legacy to feature, while the young people who would now be considered the next generation just fades away, and Harold himself still requires lobbying of major media not to forget to mention and feature for new generations who were not alive when Harold was among us.
Just the fact that I am sending this out because a friend who works for a major media outlet says that tomorrows (11/25) assignment board as of this writing does not have anything listed, so maybe this e-mail blast will help that know that somebody does care enough to issue this reminder today.
Harold Who?
Every year about this time, I have prayer and reflect on the times I spent around the Late Chicago Mayor Harold Washington who died on November 25th in 1987.
I am also reminded at how many others forget about the significance of this day for the annual commemorations get fewer and fewer each year. And the same goes for many media, who often times overlook mentioning their annual November 25th news coverage

Chicago's Oldest Registered Voter Seeks Historic Photo With Obama
Earlier this year the family of 114 year old Bronzeville resident Virgina Call called on Veteran Activist Mark S. Allen and the late Morgan Carter to contact Chicago Board of Election officials to help register her to vote, thus becoming Chicago's oldest registered voter and definitely one of the world oldest registered voters. Chicago Board of Elections Chairman Langdon Neal and other officials indeed came to the Bronzeville home and personally presided over registering the 114 year old Virginia Call to vote.
This past November 4th, the 114 year old Virginia Call probably made history YET AGAIN by casting her vote in Chicago for Barack Obama for President of The United States !! Now to complete that history, the family of Virginia call has contacted the veteran activist Mark Allen once again to see if the new President can come to the Bronzeville home and take a photo with Virginia who at 114 years old may be the oldest Chicagoan and may be the oldest voter in the United States to cast a vote for the historic election of Barack Obama.
Allen reported to the family that he sent e-mails of the request to the Obama Campaign offices but has not yet got a response, but will also make an appeal to the major media who currently have the credentials to regularly ask questions of Obama to help raise the question of whether our next President can positively respond to the request.

Hey friends of America, it's time to go to work Stop crying over spilled milk my friends. The election is over or should I say the Coup d’etat will be finalized in January at the inauguration of America’s 2nd proposed King, of course I’m referring to JFK and his bid for Camelot. This one is a little scarier as he represents a totally new faction in power for the first time. These are the new Progressives, they have manipulated everything in our country from the removing of God and all reference to his being from our world to the relaxing of morals in our society as well as the teaching of our children that it’s okay to lose. What kind of life lesson is that? They have a true leader and it’s not President elect Obama, it’s a self proclaimed philanthropist by the name of George Soros. It is Mr. Soros beliefs that have with the help of his Billions changed our world, and not in my opinion for the best. He has links to financiers and industrialists in every country and somehow I just can’t believe he does anything for the good of this country. He was linked to the degrading of the English Pound as well as bringing the Euro to the continent of Europe. Does anyone really think the common dollar in Europe has done anything to help the richer nations? No my friends but it has made certain investments in the poorer nations a lot more valuable.
What would be the objective for a Soros interference in this country? Could it be just the beginning of a bid for the New World Order? Another name for this is called Spread the Wealth of the richer nations to create monetary stability in the poorer ones, making certain investments in these nations a lot more valuable.
Now, I do not think one man can do this by himself, he has to have had lots of accomplices to pull it off. Using the guise of a Socialist he has found his minions in the left wing of the Democratic Party. Socialism is defined by Webster as: “Any of various social systems based on shared or government ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.” Wouldn’t this eliminate all forms of competition. Sounds something like Pelosi and Reid would like, doesn’t it? What does it also do for someone like Soros? Could it mean that he and a handful of industrialists and financiers could control much of the worlds treasures? Money can buy governments, we’ve already seen it can buy elections. No, President elect Obama is not the true leader of this party, he is but a follower to the real King.
My objective in this blog is to rally good people who normally don’t get involved to action. We have two years to deprive this group from achieving their true goals. If we as Americans fighting for the very core of our beliefs, can wrestle control of the Congress away from these people we can take their power away and they will fold their tents and slip back into the shadows for another day. This has to be the goal but the fight will be enormous. Soros will not hesitate to throw Billions into this battle. They have proven they are capable of ruining the career of any opposition as shown with their attempted character assassination of Joe the Plumber and of course the lies and innuendo put out against Governor Sarah Palin. We will hear from Hollywood and of course the love affair from many left leaning leaders of the world but don’t let your guard down for a minute as our real fight has yet to begin.
And that’s my opinion,
Don

Was this an election or really a coup d'etat
How can we as individuals feel like we can make a difference with what happens in America? For 232 years we have been happy to let others make our decisions for us. From the end of the revolution to the present time, we have elected by democratic vote our leaders. We have always felt no matter how hard the campaign or how tough the rhetoric, that it really didn’t matter who won. The world would go on as usual, our job would still be there in the morning as it has always been and nothing would really change. Why is it that so many feel so different this time? Is it an issue of race? Could it be that we Americans are basically bigots, and are just now realizing it? Is it the differences of opinion that we all feel about the war on terror? How about the lack of confidence most have in our Congress? What is it that is bothering so many Americans?
I really don’t think it’s any of the above. I feel the race issue is mute, just as many whites voted for Obama as blacks. As far as being bigots, I’m sure there are some who hate the fact that a black man is our president elect, but surely not the majority. We will always have a few on both sides, black and white that are filled with senseless hate. The war was a distraction during this election but I really don’t believe it was the main issue. No, it was the economy. Think about this,we went from a robust can’t lose boom, to a sorrowful recession in only 6 short months. The DOW was firm into the 11,000 mark, and the economy was sailing along with the lowest jobless rate in our history, and what happened?
Could it be that a politically motivated plan to take over the government was hatched by the far left with the willing help of the media? Was there even a hint of failure before the House and Senate changed hands, just two years ago? Has the Congress become hopelessly locked in a partisan do nothing mode, since that election? Why didn’t the house democrats take heed of the stern warnings from the administration, regarding the Fannie and Freddie situation? How was it that the administration was given the full blame in the people’s eyes for the disaster that this has become? Was the media an knowing accomplice to this misinformation diatribe in an effort to discredit President Bush and his administration? How about this, could there be accomplices to this coup d'etat within the administration itself?
These are just a few of the many questions in peoples mind as we enter into this new uncharted territory, where America, is no longer the financial leader of the world. Could we be just a few steps away from a one world government? Are we at our end as the bastion of freedom that the world has looked up to for over 200 years? For those of you who have blindly accepted all that has happened, I sincerely hope your faith has put us on the right course, if not, this country and the world will face a crisis much greater than we could ever imagine.
And sorrowfully, that’s my opinion,
Don

First retire the top three executives from the company, get rid of those tinplated millionaires and the jet they road in on and don’t let them sail to the ground with a golden parachute worth millions. If they haven’t saved anything from the millions they have already been paid, too damn bad. For 2nds I would give the union 48 hours to come before the committee with a scaled down proposal that makes some type of sense to the real people of America. Model it after the pay plan of the Toyota factory or the Nissan plant. No one in America working on an assembly line should be making $76 per hour even if it does include benefits. There should be no restrictions on terminations and no job banks to hide lazy union members with pay. It’s time to come to the real world boys, you’ve done it your way and you lost.
I really don’t care how much of a capitalist you are, no one needs $60 million to get by. The pay these top executives are getting is obscene and not one of them probably has a lick of commonsense. Believe me, if they did they would have come to Washington on Greyhound or Jet Blue. We have literally millions of people just trying to get through this at various suppliers, dealerships and parts houses around the country. Their only hope is some type of bailout or fire sale to keep their jobs. These guys and girls are real people who work hard, just to make a living wage. How about the waitress at the café down the street from a dealership in Joplin, does she deserve to lose her job because of the failure of a few at the top?
I know the Democrats won’t like this idea as some of their main support comes from the UAW, but listen up guys, you promised us change, now lets see it. I am not for government involvement in business but this could be done through a few of the banks we just bailed out and with only government guaranties not government participation. Lets see some real change right now, with a bipartisan effort based on real sound judgement and practical ideas.
This would be a business loan, produced by banks that are in the business of producing loans. This is not a free ride. Should the loan not be satisfied in a reasonable time, assets would be seized and liquidated. We just may end up with a Chevrolet, by Toyota or Nissan.
And that’s my opinion,
Don
