Hunger Action Month

I am so thrilled FOX Chicago teamed up with Jewel-Osco this month for a weekly event called "Stuff the Truck". So far, we've stopped on the South Side of Chicago and Northwest Indiana and I have been so touched by the outpouring of community support for this effort. With the sagging economy, many of our local food pantries are struggling to meet the growing demand for help. Thousands of local children are going hungry and a single can of food can make a difference!
Please help if you can by making a donation at your local Jewel-Osco store. Or join us from 7-10am during "Good Day Chicago" for our final "Stuff the Truck" events:
Thurs. 9/18, Jewel-Osco, 4 E. Ogden, Westmont
Thurs., 9/25, Jewel-Osco, 2940 North Ashland, Chicago
Many thanks to the countless people who've donated so far.
Feel free to share your thoughts on Hunger Action Month.
Here are a two video clips from our events so far:

Hello Hybrid!

After six weeks on a waiting list, I was able to make the big switch to a hybrid car last week and what a difference! Already, I'm averaging about 40 miles to a gallon and can easily understand how hybrid drivers become "hypermilers". I don't even mind sitting in traffic anymore because the car's not burning ANY gas! It's quite a savings since I commute daily from the far northwest suburbs.
And now, the hybrid waiting list is about four months long.
Have any of you changed your driving routines due to the high gas prices? How 'bout some tips on getting even more mileage?
Confessions of a Soccer Mom

Just got word that the soccer tournament my daughter's team was set to play in this weekend has been cancelled due to our horrible weather. YIPPPPEEEE!!!! It would've consumed our entire weekend. And I know I'm not the only soccer mom from the team who's secretly happy. Given the hectic lives we all lead these days, it's nice to have some unexpected "down" time to spend together.
I hear there are all sorts of cancellations due to the weather - baseball, softball, lacrosse... There must be other parents and caregivers out there feeling the same guilty pleasure?!?!?! Enjoy the weekend!
Merry Christmas!!!

The stores put out the holiday stuff before Halloween! It's not your imagination... retailers want you to feeled rushed into shopping NOW! And one local radio station is already playing holiday tunes exclusively. Do these tactics work on you? Will it change your holiday routine or make you spend more?

I cannot spend 30 seconds outside without getting a mosquito bite. These buggers are after me 24/7 even when I'm covered in bug spray (my new perfume)! It's horrible this year after all that rain. People are telling me to eat more garlic and take more vitamins but nothing seems to help. What works for you? Or are all of you being spared because the skeeters are just swarming around me? Help!!!

Pig Out and Party like it's 4705!

Happy Lunar New Year, Chicago!
The Year of the Pig 4705 arrives on Sunday, February 18th. If you're superstitious like me, be sure to have a clean house and something new to wear. Be sure to put away all knives and brooms or you'll threaten and sweep away all good tidings. Also, maintain good spirits on Sunday. The Chinese believe the first day of the new year sets the tone for the rest of the year. So, no fighting and no tears. "Gung Hei Fat Choi", that's Happy New Year in Chinese. Are you superstitious too?

Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan wants to move our state Presidential Primary to Feb. 5 from March 18. It's intended to provide an early win for Senator Barack Obama should he run for president which appears more and more likely. What do you think about such a move? Would it really influence voters in other states? Is Obamamania out-of-control?

What a night at the Cook County Building - a mob scene as ballot boxes had to be hauled in from the precincts... and then the candidates marching and rushing over to check on the count! What do you make of it all? Do you trust that the vote count is accurate?

A proposal in Arizona to get more people to the polls could make one lucky voter rich! Everyone who votes would automatically be entered into a lotto for a $1 million dollar prize. Should there be such incentive for voters? What do you think?
