Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan wants to move our state Presidential Primary to Feb. 5 from March 18. It's intended to provide an early win for Senator Barack Obama should he run for president which appears more and more likely. What do you think about such a move? Would it really influence voters in other states? Is Obamamania out-of-control?

The next thing you know, is they'll change the law to say that anyone who VOTES for Obama will be counted as 4 votes, not just one. Why? Because they're running the show in Illinois, and they can, that's why.

Someone better challenge this Feb 5th thing. How stupid.

Is this to imply that he couldn't win, unless he had the early advantage?
Why not just play by the rules...Oh wait, this is politics...I forget, the rules are, There are no rules!
I think this guy is over rated! He may have a million dollar smile, and be rather on the handsome side...But Thats it. He has no opinion of his own, his votes follow Durbin, Obama has never said anything. He spouts of the usual politician "Non Speak" and all of a sudden he is the man to beat!?
Sorry, I am not buying into it all.

Nothwithstanding the Obama factor currently --- as important as the State of Illinois is to the direction of the country, with it's current Senior Senator in power, it's fine time for Illinois to stop being one of the States that the Presidential nominee is almost a certainty before Illinois has its Primary.

Moving the Illinois Primary would be a needed boost to our rightful place of significance, AND it would almost double the financial investments made across the state from the campaigns, media, organizers, etc.

"boost to our rightful place of significance"

LOL You're kidding! What rightful place? What Significance? Illinois is known for Corruption!
And any Financial increases will never benefit the People of this State! It will simply go towards the lining of the pockets, and to allow the rich and connected to continue the practice of Fine Dining!

OMGILI! (Oh my God I love it)

This is so the Illinois Democratic politician way of doing things.
Stack the deck.
Make things seem what they are not.
Black or white it makes not a bit of difference so lets keep race out of it.
Illinois, if it rightfully deserves "its rightful place of significance", should get it by cleaning up it's act and earning it and not by "genetically engineering" a primary win for a candidate who has not made a position known that wasn't put in his mouth by Dick Durbin. The only good thing, if you can call it that, about Durbin (The Senior Senator from Illinois being majority Whip in The Senate), is that now we hear from him as opposed to Senator Reid from Nevada whose state also butted in ahead of the primary line for 2008.
Obama talks a lot but says nothing.
The Obama factor is currently subsiding as people are gettig over Obamaized and are losing interest. Rosie and Donald are taking over!

How many bloggers would like to be featured in my newspaper with 55,000 weekly circulation. The dialogue here is worth sharing between communities, for as you can see, there are so many different views to the exact same question. Some years ago WVON and WLS and sometimes WBEZ would do joint broadcasts so various communities could dialogue about why they saw issues in such different ways.

Let me know.

I'm tired of Obamarama.

Don't get me wrong- Obama seems like a decent guy. But he hasn't really made a splash in the Senate as of yet. I still live in the hood. So, how could he possibly make a difference for Americans and he barely represents the state of Illinois well.

Here's how Obama really came into popularity.

The American media realizes its power in deciding elections. The American people are so impressionable that we'd rather let a commercial or editorial in a newspaper tell us about a candidate rather than watching a debate or researching that candidate.

Right now, anybody would seem better than the current President. Unfortunately, as we've learned from the Honorable Dubya- choosing a president is a very serious decision. We must stop acting on our emotions.

Edwards in '08! WOO!

The Democratic field is an interesting bunch already. But where'd they all go? Little has been seen or heard about Edwards since he travelled to New Orleans to make his big declaration to run. Vilsack, Dodd, Biden...
I suppose the same can be said about the Republican contenders too. It's early in the game.

661 days to go!

Lots of time and a lot more to declare that they will try for the "brass ring".
Have you ever considered a story on the Presidential Candidate from Illinois that HAS declared his intentions to run for the office as a Republican. He is no kook and has a solid political background nationally and statewide. His name is John Cox. He probably has no more chance that Vilsack, Dodd or Biden on the Dem side or Hunter or Gilmore on the Republican side but he has a strong and interesting message.
Before you ask, I am not supporting hi and am not beholding him in any way.

For me, it makes no difference, if the Presidential Primary was on February the 5th or March the 18th. This does not change my vote. I will vote the same.

As an individual, for me anyway, it doesn't matter if he runs, wins, or both.

I heard that he has used coke. Not a problem for me. I've used it too. Only 3-4 times 20 years ago, but still I used it.

On my twenty first birthday, I tried LSD twice that week. Opium a few time, Mushrooms once. Marijuana a lot. I think I've had a few drinks, but it's not to my liking.

I know how the drugs effect(ed) me, and a liberal coke user in the White House is be a big issue, I would rather have a striaght minded perisdent dropping bombs, than one who's in need of another line.

If cocaine was a non-refinded substance like marijuana or opium, I may have a more favorable stance on users.

Then there's the issue of the amount of income that's tied up into the habit.....

Good Luck!

Unfortunately, people don't use thier heads when it comes to issues such as these. I would be amazed if I seen the media report on canidates voting records in congress as opposed to personal interest. Then again, it has always amazed me that the public vote in people with criminal records. Why is that a Alderman is able to hold a Chicago political office if he/she is a convicted criminal. Unbelievable!!!!

ILLINOIS AS A STATE TRUST OBAMA WITH A HIGH PERCENTAGE. THE MAIN OBSTACLE IS THE REST OF THE NATION. WILL OTHER STATES VOTE FOR HIM? OBAMA IS TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, WHICH I BELIEVE OUR NATION IS PREPARED: MANY PEOPLE OF OUR STATE HAVE CONFIEDNCE,. HE WILL WIN,THE SAME CONFEIDENCE THE U.S. HAD WITH CLINTON.

OBAMA IS NOT OVER CONTROL,HIS PERSPECTIVE HAS MADE HIM REALIZE HE HAS THE POTENTIAL,AND CAPABILITY TO BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT.
