A proposal in Arizona to get more people to the polls could make one lucky voter rich! Everyone who votes would automatically be entered into a lotto for a $1 million dollar prize. Should there be such incentive for voters? What do you think?

Well people arent voting as much as they should right now but doing this would cause our government to be nothing more than a fun toy for most people.
I would not say this should be the one method but there has to be another idea somewhere that can be done in a way that still gets people to vote not for a chance in cash but for the idea they will vote for a worthwile cause.

It sounds good to me, but with a million dollars in play, I think it's a better idea to give out 10,000 awards of $100.00 each.

I'ld rather recieve a $5,000.00 grant to do a study on which candidate is best for the job.

I would not offer a prize for voting. By doing this you get people voting just to win a prize and these people may not be paying attention to who is running for election and will just choose anyone without any thought. People need to vote because they want to choose someone that they believe will make a difference - not vote to try to win money.

Or instead of 1 million going to one person how about spliting it into prizes of 250$.
This way most voters will go seeing the chance is greater to get something

I think it's wrong to ofer a cash prize for votes! If they want more voter turn out, give us better choices...and stop the negative ads. Focus on the issues.

Ithik they should have this kind of lottery.I still don't know who to vote forand won't know on election day.Because of all the bad things they are saying about all the canidates. But at least someone can get some money out of it. That is until canidates find out how to their fingers on it.

What I and many with me belive is voting is starting to slow down is due to what Mommacat said. They make it seem the other is horrible for the job so when you have to vote you can't.

Thats how we got Mr. President...I mean look at his approval its going up and down but mostly down so how could he have become our leader?

Politics is nothing more than a way to get rich people into a leadership position. ^.^

I agree Mikey2008. I'm disappointed that the news people just made it seem like most people want cash prizes!

Interesting responses. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I took advantage of the early voting process yesterday. So many Americans have died fighting for our right to vote. Why should we need financial incentive to go to the polls?

Is it just me or does no-one report the truth anymore? Between the news media and the negative ads - I just can't wait until this election is over. I agree with Mamacat that if they want to increase election turnout then they need to start reporting on actual issues and stop the negative ads. If you don't have something nice to say about someone then don't say anything at all!

Yay I was on the air with the "Fun toy" part :-P(Thank you)

Most people would like a cash prize due to the fact voting is nothing more these days then stating your oppinion with little effct on the politician.

I think that this is an absolutely ridiculous idea!!!!!! I do not vote because I am not informed enough about the candidates right now, I think that by offering a money prize for a random voter will definately get more people to vote, but that will bring in even more uniformed voters and I would be afraid of what the results of that could be. No offense, but I don't really want an Arnold Schwarzenegger, or any celebrity starting to run my world.

I think it's good for the system. More people will want to vote. This forces better campaigning by the politicians to garner those votes. Right now there are too many negatives ads. Eventually the cream will rise to the top and we will all benefit.

Well said Jo517 - that is exactly what I was trying to say in my post.

You are all right about the negative ads. Just the other day, my 9-year-old daughter asked why every politician is so mean!

Yeah ,winning a million dollar for free would be great so what's wrong with it?But would be fair if they will give cash for every qualified voters.

Honestly, I feel any kind of financial motivations involved with voting is unethical. Voting is a priveledge, and a right. People have the freedom to express that right, or the freedom to not express that right. Trying to encourage a voter to express that right to vote by offering a chance to win money is comparable to bribery!

I agree, Mommacat. Do you think people who don't vote have a right to complain about our government?

Nancy Loo,
Thank you...and your question is a very hard one.
I believe everyone is entitled their opinion. But I believe the only way to make a difference in a situation you don't like is to make your voice heard. Voting is a way to do just that.
On the other hand, a lot of people out there have lost faith in our system to the point where they just gave up. I can understand this because I am very close to feeling that way too. But I will be voting this year, as I always have since I have become of legal age.
I think we all need to make some hard demands of our government. I do believe that WE THE PEOPLE are entitled to alot better then what we have been offered in terms of the candidates. I believe that there are alot of good people out there who could do some good in offices, but just aren't able to get there because of the money it takes to get there.
It would be nice to see a general fund for the candidates to use...One for each party, and this would definately force these politicans to run for office solely on their experience and the issues at hand.
