Mike Woods's Blog

OK, I got a nice little taste of winter yesterday as i headed out to P.S. 52 in Dongan Hills, Staten Island.  Yep!  It was Prinicipal for a day yesterday once again for Mr. Mike Woods and we had a great time out there.  But it definitely gave me a nice little preview of what's to come as we head  into the winter months.  We even witnessed a few flurries in the area and I know some folks  saw full on snow squalls around the tri-state yesterday.

Well, I had a great time yesterday with all the activities, but I also now appreciate being inside even more so with the cold air setting up shop for a decent stretch of time here.  So I will be parked in studio for a while... unless something very cool comes up!!  Who can turn down a good party??

By the way, I want to invite all the kids, parents and staff members who came to be a part of the prinicipal for a day festivities yesterday to start up a blog and upload some pictures for us to post here our myfoxny.com website.   Send 'em in Y'all!!  And bundle it up before you head outside.  Trust me... it's still cold and it's staying that way!

Brrrrr.....

Howdy everyone!   How's everyone been?  I've been well, but very busy with all the changes around this place.  What I'm speaking about today are the changes with Fox 5 going HD.  This was a huge undertaking for the station and as many of you have noticed, we're using a different weather graphics system which was a big deal for us and... well... it's going to take a little time to get a complete grasp on how to use this bad  boy!

So that's one huge change, and here's the other.  The Weather!!  Yes, it's been dry here since Saturday but that dry weather won't last much longer either.  A complex storm will be heading this way tonight and into tomorrow.  That means there is a good chance for rain tomorrow which will probably last for a few days.  The good news with this wet weather comes warmer temperatures too.  So break out the umbrellas and keep them handy for a while... you're going to need them.

And just an fyi, for those who are wondering what going on with our next good day gathering... we have been struggling to come up with a date that works for everyone.  And unfortunately it looks like our biggest challenge is the holiday season.  Obviously that isn't going to change.  So it looks like we may have to wait until 2009 to get a time together that works for as many as possible.  :/  It's not ideal, but I think that's what we're faced with realistic.  We'll keep ya posted!!

Some of you may have noticed that I have a hard time sitting still.  I have a hard time staying put on the weekends unless I have friends or family in town to entertain.  This past weekend was much the same as I decided to take a little jaunt down to the nation's capital to hang out for the weekend and see some old friends I hadn't seen in a few years.  It was a great little trip, I drove down instead of taking the train or flying this time.  It was kind of nice though cause I don't keep a car in the city so driving is always a little treat for me.
The weather was awesome, especially on Saturday.  I swear it felt more like late Spring or something.  I'm trying to get better with taking video and pictures so I can share a little bit of my weekends with you all.  That and it's also nice to have things documented on video just in case you forget somethings here and there.
So take a peak if you're interested.  I promise to be a little better at "telling the story" with video in the future.
Take care!
Mike

OK, So a couple of weeks ago I visited P.S. 48 and served as Principa for a day. I had such a great time and the students, staff and families that came out to visit couldn't be nicer. They had created all sorts of banners, pictures, storybooks, poems, cakes, cupcakes and lots of great questions for me. I was completely taken back by it all.

One thing I have to share with everyone is this cute little they wrote and sang for me during the visit. It was so cute I don't even know what to say. So anyhow, here's a link to that song which I had uploaded.

Thanks to everyone who made me feel so welcome! You are all superstars in my book!

Cheers!

OK, so the halloween adventures continued today for us on Good Day New York!  Today we headed out to Greenpoint Brooklyn to a house at 648 Humboldt Drive.  The owner and creator,  Anthony Aurienna wasn't home but he had plenty of family, friends, neighbors, and ghostly gags galore to go 'round.  We had a great time out there, took lots of pics and froze our rear ends off!!  Good thing this was the day BEFORE halloween!!
So here's a quickie tour of 648 Humboldt "Manor".  Enjoy and Happy Halloween!!

Hello Everyone!  It's getting closer and closer to Halloween and everyone is getting so excited. We survived the coastal storm so now it's party time! It's hard to believe how much folks get into the freaky festivities these days.  Halloween isn't just for kids anymore, EVERYONE wants in on the action.
So what I decided to do was take a short video of the homes I visited today so I could show everyone online.  My little flip camera rolled and we just had a little "show and tell of two great homes in Wayne, NJ whose owners submitted their proud pictures to Fox 5 to have us out for our morning show.  Rob Richardson and Gail Turner and their families went all out and promise it's going to be a huge party come Halloween.
Hope you enjoy the little tour and if you want to go check them out they're expecting plenty of people so it should be fun!
Cheers!

Hello Everyone, and happy Monday. Hopefully you all had a great weekend. I know I did!! And I'm sure quite a few of our loyal bloggers also had a great time. As many of you know, we had a little gathering at this restaurant Local West by Penn Station which turned out to be a really nice time! I know the weather was not cooperative, but that didn't stop Me, Ines, Foxy Kathy and a whole lot of fun from going on.

So who showed up to this fun fest?? Well we had Mystro, Rebecca, Lori, Maki, Amy, Chelechoka, Doc, Bobby, Big Band Bob and the new president of my fan club. Yes!! We're working on a Mike Woods fan club web site... more to come on that soon. (please forgive me if I forgot anyone) And just so you know, this wasn't my idea. I'm not a vain boy like that.

Anyhow, we all had fun little meet and greet and look forward to doing something again in the not too distant future. We're thinking about maybe at a karaoke bar or something like that. Or does anyone like bowling?? All kinds of ideas. Just stay tunes and we'll see what happens.

So if you want to get a little snapshot of what the gathering was like... check out some of the clips and pix below. Good times, good times!! :)

Cheers!

OK, we made it to Friday and it has been one heck of a week!  This kid here has been especially busy (as you could see on the air).  I'm just glad that it's now FFRRRIIDDAYYYYY!!!
Well, the weather is actually fantastic today... I just wish I could say the same for tomorrow.   :/  Oh well, for those that are able to make it we will be taking pictures and chatting away.  I hope to bring a little video camera to memorialize our little good day gathering too.  Who knows, we may have to post some of the ongoings right here on our website!
So for those of us able to make the shindig, travel safe and dry!  The weather doesn't want to  cooperate, but that can't keep us away!!
Local West again is at 33rd st and 8th ave. on the northeast corner and we should be there by 6pm.  I'm imagining that it won't be too hard to spot us.  I get the impression that this crowd may make a little noise.
That's tomorrow (Saturday at 6pm!!)  Try to make it.
Cheers!
Mike (with some lovely friends in tow)

You can call me Principal Woods this morning. I am principal for the day at P.S. 48 in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. The kids, staff and parents showed up even before I did. That's early ... like 4 a.m. early!

Take a look at the early birds and me.

Hello Everyone!  Hope you all had a great weekend.  I enjoyed, it was a pretty low-key weekend for me.  I'll tell you what though.  We definitely got a nice little taste of fall temperatures.   I was out with friends giving out apples to raise health awareness in Harlem at 8am Sunday and it was cold!!!  Oh well, we survived and actually had a great time.

So now it's time to get back to work and school for everyone on this Monday.  And once again, it's pretty cold outside relatively speaking.  Those 70s we all enjoyed not too long ago are a thing of the past my friends.  Now tomorrow there will be a cold front swinging across the tri-state, but it won't have much moisture to work with so we won't get a  lot of rain out of this bad boy.  But we should see a few scattered light showers... especially in the northern most regions of the tri-state.

And for those who are interested in our little Good Day Gathering... I'm thinking that doing something at Local West on the northwest corner of 33rd st. and 8th Ave would be great.  I'll put in a call to see if we can reserve a little section for the good guys and gals.  I'm thinking around 6pm??  How does that sound?  All are welcome, but I will need an approximate head count so Who's in?  Bring friends and family if you want... It's all good!!  And again, that's this Saturday the 25th.

Holla at ya boy!!  Who's in and how many??  We'll just keep tallying it up as we approach the weekend.  So far we're up to one!!  Me!!

Cheers

Hey everyone!  I've been a little m.i.a. for a while, but I'm not going anywhere!  Well, I will be going somewhere... to meet you all in about a week and a half!!  I'm so indecisive because I'm not all that familiar with the lounges in that area.   I know there is this outdoor  bar/restarurant on the corner of 33rd st and 8th Ave. that could work for us.  I don't know the name of it though so I guess that would help!  I'll get on that and get back to ya...  for reals!!

As for the weather, well we've done very well lately but things are going to return to a more fall-like set up soon.  Today will be nice and sunny with highs in the low to mid 70s.  Then more clouds scoot in tomorrow with a chance of showers out there late Thursday.  But that rain should be short lived, by Friday you are back to sunshine but your highs will take a dive returning to the upper 50s to low 60s Friday and through the weekend.

Peace!

Hello Everyone!  How are ya?  Hopefully you had a nice weekend... we had a little bit of everything didn't we??  Well now the weekend is over and it's time to get back to business here.  And every day seems to feel more and more like fall is really sinking in.  In fact, we have quite a few frost advisories and freeze warnings going up tonight for much of the northern sections of the tri-state.  I guess we are going to break our hats, scarves, gloves et. al. sooner rather than later.

And just as a side note... I did get a haircut on Friday which is definitely a little short this go 'round.  I guess a lot of people are taking notice of it too... menitoning it on our live blog.  Well I can tell you this, I won't be going for the super short haircut much longer.  I've gotta keep that nugget nice and toasty and me off the sick list!

Cheers everybody!!

Alright wrestling fans, are you ready for the WWE to return to My 9?!?!  Well that's what we're going to be all pumped up about tomorrow morning as we celebrate the launch... or should I say re-launch of WWE on My 9 (our beloved sister station).  Well on Friday, October 3rd Anne Craig and I will be broadcasting live from 1211 6th Avenue next to the News Corp building with a huge block party celebrating WWE's move to My 9 starting that Friday evening.  Thousands of people are expected!  So if you want to check me out, I'll be there throughout our morning show on Friday.  But I do have to warn you, be ready to bundle up a bit.

Fall temperatures are taking over throughout the northeast and tri-state over the next few days.  And I'm expecting a little bit of a chill in the air for the next several mornings as the fall season sets in.  So if you are going to come out to see us, make sure you're ready to deal with the cooler temps.

Other than that, we've got a pretty quiet stretch of cool/dry weather coming our way.  But hey!  At least that means a nice weekend coming our way!

See ya when I see ya...

Hello everyone!  I'm back and at 'em, ready for what will be our next storm here in the tri-state.  I've gotta say, the weather was nice in Cali, but I actually like the rain.  So I guess I missed out on a pretty soggy weekend, but I'll take the rain we have coming in tonight and through tomorrow as a "make up" from Mamma nature.  Yes, we are expecting some showers to kick in by later tonight and we'll get showers and storms through Wednesday.  Then things dry up and cool down from Thursday on along with a nice little drop in temperatures.

OK Y'all!  Thanks for the continued love here.  Good to be back!  And welcome to all our newest good day bloggers, like Karen... enjoy our crazyness!!

Peace!

Hello Everyone!  Happy Humpday!!  Hope everyone has been loving all this fantastic sunshine and the cool temperatures that goes along with them.  I'd say this has been a pretty nice way to head into Fall.  But it has been a little while since we've seen significant rain in the tri-state region... September 12th was our last measureable rainfall.  But that is going to be changing!

We have rain scheduled to revisit the tri-state region starting later tomorrow.  What's happening is an area of low-pressure is developing off the southeast coast that will gradually trek up the eastern seaboard.  That spells wind and rain for us as a nor'easter cranks through our area.   We'll take the rain, but the timing isn't the greatest since it will be affecting the end of the workweek as well as the weekend.

OK, Y'all... Have a great day.  And just so ya know, I'm going to be off till Tuesday next week visiting family out west.  I WILL BE BACK!!  No sweat....

Cheers!
