WFLD ADDS FIFTH HOUR TO “GOOD DAY CHICAGO”

FOX Chicago Continues to Produce the Most Local Weekday News Hours and Now the Market’s Only Local Newscast at 9:00 a.m.

CHICAGO – FOX Chicago will add a fifth hour to its morning news program, “Good Day Chicago,” announced Patrick Mullen, Vice President and General Manager, WFLD-TV.  Starting on Monday, July 7th, the extended program will be presented from 5:00 –10:00 a.m. (CT)

In making the announcement, Mullen stated, “This is a natural extension for FOX Chicago, as our station already leads the market in locally-produced weekday news hours.  The additional hour of “Good Day Chicago” well positions us to take advantage of a growing appetite for local news, weather and information during this time period.”

Mike Barz and Jan Jeffcoat will host the fifth hour, joined by reporters Pat Elwood and Nancy Loo, traffic reporter Sondra Solarte and meteorologist Tammie Souza.  Overseeing the extended program will be “Good Day Chicago” Executive Producer Melinda Tichelaar.

Tichelaar added, “This extension will allow us to provide live coverage of news events throughout the morning, giving viewers the most up to the minute information about what’s going on around Chicago.”

During the 9:00 hour, viewers can expect to see more in-depth coverage of breaking news and weather.  Regular features will include discussion of hot topics and news of the day along with a variety of local commentators, as well as health reports and results of topical text and phone surveys.

WFLD FOX Chicago is part of the Fox Television Stations, one of the nation's largest owned-and-operated network broadcast groups, comprising 35 stations in 26 markets, covering nearly 45% of U.S. television homes.  This includes six duopolies in the top 10 markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Washington D.C. and Houston; as well as duopolies in Minneapolis, Phoenix and Orlando.

The above is the press release by the station.  My personal thanks to the entire AM team that does such a great job day after day.  The newscast keeps getting better and now more people will get to see it.

You guys caught a lot of flack for replacing Tamron Hall and dumping David Novarro in the mornings.

When Jan Jeffcoat came in, I had my doubts. Now her and Mike are the best thing about this station.

Now if we just didn't have to see Novarro and Whats her name at night, it'd be all good. ;-)

You guys still have a lot of good people there you're not giving a real chance to though.

I am still getting used to Mike and Jan. Tamron and David were my favorite team in the morning. I was sorry to see David leave the morning show, but happy to see he was promoted to the main anchor job at night. He is my favortie anchor. Keep up the good work

This is a huge mistake. The a.m. shows just seems to be getting worse each day. All you do is repeat the same stories every 15 minutes or so. You tease traffic and weather more than actually reporting on them. I view this as saying its more economical to put an hour of bad news against Oprah than it is to put more expensive syndicated programming on. And what gave you the idea we want another hour of Mike and Jan. I'd give more time to Patrick and Nancy, if anything. By the way, I laughed at the quote about more demand for news at this time. Ok, its 9 am, I just finished 4 hours of news on Fox (or any other Chicago station), I know what we need a fifth hour repeating the same stuff over and over. WFLD used to be my main source for news, a.m. and p.m. I liked Mark Suppelsa, Bob Sirott, Walter Jacobson, the Chicago team you once had. Who are these amatuers?

I think its a awesome idea just change it up a little I think the traffic needs a big upgrade seems like its just rushed threw all the time. Weather seems fine to me Tammie rocks. Another thing why not get rid of the FOX News Chicago logos on the morning show and update them all to Goodday Chicago. Another plus ive been waiting for is HD when is Fox going HD?
