VIEWERS WANT TO KNOW: DERECHO
J. Miller wrote in asking about a Derecho... which are very damaging wind storms. NOAA definition: A derecho (pronounced similar to "deh-RAY-cho" in English or pronounced phonetically as "
") is a widespread and long lived windstorm that is associated with a band of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms.
Derechos do happen in Chicago occassionally. We have had a few in Chicago over the last year.
Miller sent in photos taken in Wilmot Wisconsin and wanted to find out more...
